Just imagine there is a system in Plasma that tracks which contacts you chat with often. Just imagine that also happens to people you often send e-mails to.

Now, imagine there is a system that connects the people from your addressbook, with the people from your IM application.

Lastly, imagine an applet that connects all these by showing the people you write to most often.

You'll need to be patient - it is spread across a few repositories. And it is in its infancy (the applet).

On a more serious note, different parts of the system have always tracked what you are doing. Recent documents, chat logs, sent mail etc. So, there is nothing new here in that regard. The difference here is that you have full control of what is being tracked which is not the case with the aforementioned things.

Heh, the data was a bit on the dummy side. I've set KTp up just before starting to work on the UI so I had to open a couple of chats just to populate the statistics. I had to chose the online people which had sane photos. A few KDE people, my sister and colegues.

Tracking activities is not bad per se as long as it is optional and does not convey information elsewhere. The latter is where the competition severely sucks. ;)

I think this kind of software can be really useful (or more useful) in "touch" devices, like phones and tablets.
I have no friends so this is something I can't use, but for normal people seems to fit really well.
Also, I can't use telepathy because for conferences (where I idle the entire day) it does not work for me very good.

Naturally. The data is only stored locally. We don't even have a 'send anonymous usage statistics' option.

There are plans to push this to Plasma Phone as well. I've been using it on a normal computer, and on a touch-enabled laptop. It is pleasant to use in both cases.
