If you like to keep your project-related files on your desktop for easy access, you might have kept links to them in different folders which you placed in a folder view.

Now, it is much easier, just link them to the activity they belong to, and set the folder view to display it.

I agree, they are hidden and need to be more prominent. But not to be over-exposed for people who do not want to use them.

Personally for me Activities are mostly hidden. I know about it because I read KDE blogs. I might have clicked the three dots widget which would have made no sense at the time and I would have removed it immediately. And then you have to learn it and set it. That is too much work to expect from users. I am not saying it is a bad idea but their is a learning curve to using it.

@Mk.82 Not everybody uses activities as projects.
I personally know a guy who creates and deletes at least 5 activities daily. It is not what I would do, and for what I designed parts of activities that I designed, but if the tool fits other work-flows, who am I to complain.
There is an inherent problem in naming these things. In different parts of the software world, we have Projects, Sessions, Tasks, Solutions, etc. And all those are better than the orthers at describing a specific thing. And, at the same time, they all have big faults.
The vagueness of the term 'activities' is a curse, but at the same time, it is generic enough to describe any work-flow that a user can have.
This has been discussed a few times now, but we still haven't found a better term. (and, as an abstract term, we got an even more abstract icon for it)

Has anyone brought up vote to change the Activity name something better?
Trying to explain "Activities" to someone non-geek is challenge as the name doesn't reflect what it is about.
Better names would be "Projects" or "Tasks".
I would vote for Project as it does reflect what it would be and for what kind works it is designed = not for daily/weekly tasks. The "Task" would be conflict with task manager in panel and be smaller by nature as well. After all project is divided to tasks.
There could be project management what is current "activity manager". It would be understandable to make virtual folder linked to specific project, link applications to specific project and even build whole virtual desktop around a project.
The word "Activities" brings just negativity to whole technology as no one really understands it as it means totally different things as it is meant to be solving.
Branding is now the problem and it should be fixed. The idea is great but implementation suffers from bad name.
