I thought making a screencast would take less time than writing a
manual for the Userbase. Oh, boy, was I wrong… constant chat popups,
notifications, /home partition full errors etc.
So after a few attempts, I succeeded making it with only one error
message and no nortifications.
The video demonstrates two basic methods of creating the Shelf
widget
Adding via the widget exporer and then configuring its contents
and
Dragging items from the Lancelot menu widget
It also demonstrates the different ways it can be used - as a list or
iconified, on a desktop or on a panel.
I guess you all know the story how a comma “,” killed a man - the
king wrote: Freedom not, death instead of Freedom, not
death.
Well, something similar happened to Plasma recently. There was
one (yes, just one) extra letter in
the code, and the consequences were (not for all users, but a
significant amount of them):
Panels didn’t have the resize controls, while the buttons for
locking and other stuff remained.
System tray looked half-dead.
Buttons lost their backgrounds. Text was still shown.
Folder view lost the ‘selection’ controls.
Lancelot lost the no-click activation.
… and probably a lot more things I didn’t notice
So, a couple of minutes ago, I’ve made the smallest patch ever which
killed a dozen bugs :)
Just remember that, whenever you step on a flower, it can produce a
tsunami on the other end of the globe! :)
After a few pre-ordered distro-branded versions* of Stipes, the
K.I.A. (KDE Independent Artists) is proud to present a new feature
wallpaper directed by the one and only, the author of “Plan 9” and “Glen
or Glenda”, the memorable Ed Wood.
It is nice that when you have something large to recompile, you can
spend the time doing small things like breaking apart the Arch Linux
logo and creating a new branded version of Stripes.
Just as before, you’re getting one version with original colour of
the wallpaper, and one that uses distro’s colour. I’ve used the colour
from the logo - a stronger shade of blue :)
I’ve spent some time with both of them on my desktop, and although
the “strong” version doesn’t look anything special in a thumbnail, it is
rather pleasant to use.
Stripes: Arch
Packages
Previous wallpapers were just posted as previews here on the blog,
but since this was not requested by the distro-art-managers of Arch, but
only users, it will probably not end up as a part of the distro.
Edit Thanks to Pier for the hint, you can download
the wallpapers from dropbox or sendspace. And I’ve added them to
kde-look, so you can install them via GHNS.
